I know legg perthes runs usually in boys, but I’m a female & had legg perthes when I was a child. I was diagnosed in the 3rd grade. My parents took me to the doctor since I was limping. Xrays showed the problem & I was put on crutches for months. Now, I am 34. I had years without much pain (maybe twice a year) and even had 2 children without any complications. Recently, the pain has increased & I am facing a hip replacement surgery. I am trying to endure as long as I can since I am still young.
My younger brother had Perthes in 1956 at age 4. He was nonweightbearing for about 18 months at that time. He is now in his 50’s and has no pain or joint replacements. He is probably one of the fortunate ones.
perthes is a piece of shit. I was invited to the leeds football academy as a child and was wanting to fulfill a life as a professional footballer, now I’m just a 20 yr old semi crippled nobody who struggles to play a game of weekend cricket. I HATE THIS DISEASE
I like what you are doing to make people aware if this problem. I had LCPD in both my hips. I ened up with a new hip at 31. I am 32 now and happy with the new hip. Some day soon I will have to replace my other hip. But its well worth it. back in 89 when I was told what was wrong with me they did not know what to do.
